Another day, another frustrating episode. I swear, I just bought/got/acquired a new door mechanism last month and now I'm barred in my own house! I've tried every trick I know. The spare set of keys is, of course, missing. I even examined nearby for a possible entry point, but no luck. At this point, I'm just fuming/frustrated/aggravated. Maybe it's time to invest in a professional locksmith...
Whoa! Keys Inside, Car Outside! ????
Seriously, this completely happened to me today. I was walking back to my car after grocery shopping and realized that I forgot my keys inside! My jaw hit the floor because, you know, the door were all locked. It was a total nightmare!
- I struggled to open the window, but it was a bust.
- Finally, I had to call a tow truck which was not ideal.
Just a heads up, be careful and keep those keys handy!
Help! I Locked Myself Out! Oh no! I locked myself out!
It happened so fast. I was/I had been/I'd been out for a walk and just for a second/momentarily/in a flash, I left them inside . Now, here I am / I'm stuck / I'm trapped outside with no way in . My phone is running low on battery, and I don't have a emergency lockout service spare key/my spare key is somewhere safe at home/nobody else knows where it is. What am I going to do?!
- Should I call a locksmith?
- I can't believe this is happening to me.
Maybe I should just wait it out until someone comes home/my roommate gets back/I can call a friend. But what if that takes forever?
Key Crisis!
So, you've run into a problem with your car keys. Stay calm. This must be a total disaster. First things first, look through all the usual spots - your purse, on the kitchen counter, or maybe even in that drawer you haven't touched in months. If they're nowhere to be found, it's time to come up with a plan.
- Call a locksmith. It might seem like the costliest route, but sometimes it's the fastest way to get back on the road.
- Contact your car dealership. They may be able to provide you with a spare key or at least point you in the correct path.
- Review your insurance documents. You might be surprised to find that your plan covers key replacement.

You could look for another way in, but those solutions aren't always guaranteed.
This is where it really helps to be prepared. Maybe you could consider getting a spare key made.
Until then, take a deep breath and try to stay calm.
